Am I Ready for the Future?

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to semester two of the 2015-2016 school year! I hope you and your student had an enjoyable and restful holiday break.

As we begin second semester, I challenge all students to start and finish the semester strong. For our seniors this will mark the end of their high school career and begin the transition to life after high school. Please give guidance to your student that the end of semester grades/transcripts and letters of recommendations may solidify one’s position at the college of their choice. It is important for all of our senior students to finish strong!

As for our 11th grade students, the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) exam will be given in April, which gives our school important data on what we can do to improve student achievement and classroom instruction. The CAASPP also has the EAP English and math (Early Assessment Program) assessment embedded within the exam. For the Juniors taking this exam, they will have the opportunity to measure their college readiness. Your student will receive more information as we get closer to the exam. For more info, please visit the following site: https://www.calstate.edu/eap/.

In March all of our 10th grade students will be taking the Federally Mandated Life Science exam. This exam will also our provide staff additional data on how students are doing in our classrooms. The CAASPP and the Life Science exam are important components in determining Etiwanda’s effectiveness as academic institution. Please encourage your student to do their best when taking these and any other school exams.

With the above in mind, I ask that you take the time to discuss homework and attendance with your student, as they are two keys to being successful in school. If you are of need of assistance please see the guidance section of the Etiwanda web site or please contact your student’s teachers or counselor for additional information.

I am honored to be the principal of this fine high school and I am thankful for all the teachers and staff that serve our students.  I look forward to a great second semester year as we continue the Etiwanda tradition excellence. Eagle Pride!

Counselors spent Tuesday September 15th with all 9th grade students during their science classes reviewing graduation requirements, A-G requirements, good study habits, resources, and career information.

On Wednesday September 16th, we spent the day with them in their science classes completing a career lesson to determine their learning styles and career matches.  We had a lot of fun working with them to learn more about themselves and the possibilities that lie ahead for their future careers!!

I have attached the power point presentation that we shared with them for your resource.  We used the careercruising.com website today and students have access from home as well.  They have this info on their worksheets.
