Solar Eclipse - Monday, August 21st

Parents and students,

This is an important announcement about Monday’s solar eclipse and important reminders for safety that day.  The first total solar eclipse visible in North America since 1979 will take place this Monday, August 21, 2017.  From the time the eclipse begins at 9:05 a.m. until the time it ends at 11:45 a.m., students and staff may be curious to see this scientific phenomenon.

As educators, we are in a unique position to enjoy this rare occurrence with our students, but it is essential to do so safely.  I ask that you work with us to remind your student that looking directly at the sun, even when it is partially covered by the moon, can cause serious eye damage or blindness.  Students must be taught and reminded to never look at a partial solar eclipse without certified eye protection.

That said, I have reminded our students and staff about precautionary measures and eye safety, and I will continue to do so throughout the morning on Monday.  Also, as a precaution, we will keep PE classes inside on Monday until the eclipse passes.

Additionally: Any student who would like to participate in our school activity using certified viewing glasses or devices to observe the eclipse, MUST have a permission slip signed by a parent on Monday.  Permission slips are available on the Etiwanda web site and was sent to parents /students today via School Loop.

NASA has provided numerous resources regarding the eclipse on their website.  For additional information, the following links may be consulted:

Thank you, and again, please support us as we help students enjoy this unique learning experience safely.

Solar Eclipse Permission Slip

Students, Parents, and Community Members,

We are off to a great start for the 2017/18 school year. Students and staff are busy working to continue the Etiwanda tradition of academic excellence.

As you know, Etiwanda has been part of our community for more than thirty years with the Mission Statement of developing lifelong learners who positively contribute to their communities, to their families, and to their own personal growth.  I ask that you take the time to review our website and become familiar with the opportunities and resources offered to our students that assist us in meeting the Mission Statement.

Parents, I encourage you to get involved on campus by…

  • Joining E-High CC (Etiwanda High Community Connection) Parent Organization
  • Attend the many performances offered by our students
  • Attend the many athletic events on our campus
  • Participate in the counseling evenings sponsored by our school’s Guidance department

Additionally, parents, you are our partners in educating our students and I would like to encourage you to enroll on School Loop (see web site). This home to school communication system is an additional way to stay in touch with your students’ teachers, counselor, and administrative team. Lastly, I ask that you follow @EtiwandaRed on Twitter. This will allow you to stay up-to-date on the excellence that Etiwanda has to offer.

Lastly, thank you for being part of this educational journey. If I can be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.
